  • India’s digital transformation initiatives grew manifold during the pandemic, with much greater realization of the need for digital operations. Two technologies hold the potential to transform India’s digitization goals and they make the bulk of the $1 trillion digital economy impact, aimed at by 2025 – AI and IoT.
  • In 2020, McKinsey and NASSCOM conducted a study that pegged the potential of AI to deliver a $500 billion impact by 2025. A study by IDC in February 2021 suggests that IoT technologies are estimated to add another $200-250 billion.

  • AI’s uptake by the public sector for solutions related to pandemic control, vaccination, and real-time information sharing has seen exemplary end products in the form of central and state government COVID-19 portals and the sole vaccination management app, Co-WIN

  • IoT’s importance was established during this crisis – with a drone technology aided by GPS/GIS for contactless, remote deliveries, remote-sensing based robotic frontline operations, collaborative robots or cobots helping production lines to keep operational, and the Aarogya Setu app helping millions of Indians avoid venturing into COVID-infected areas

  • AI to tackle malnutrition in rural India using a cloud-based, smartphone app powered by AI services that detects malnutrition
  • AI and NLP-based database to help police solve cases faster as well as help them learn about the new methods adopted by criminals
  • In supply chains, IoT technologies assist with digitizing stock movement and tracking and tracing for real-time visibility and better inventory management
