2017 has been a landmark year for the Indian healthcare landscape with the release of Government’s National Health Policy 14 years after the previous version. This, coupled with significant traction in the healthtech space, prompted NASSCOM Research team to develop and release one-of-a-kind report titled ‘Healthtech in India – Are we there yet?’ Globally and in India, before of wrath of communicable diseases could have been tackled, chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, hypertension, cancers and mental illnesses are becoming leading causes of disease burden, increasing healthcare expenditures every year. In India, particularly, with lower density of skilled health professionals (27.5 per 10,000 population), significant divide between cities and remote areas and a high percentage of out-of-pocket expenditure (62.4%), makes technology intervention indispensable. And healthtech start-ups have a critical role to play here.

With a fine blend of data, insights and examples, the report highlights the progress made by Indian healthtech start-ups, top segments, disease areas and technologies that they are focused on and how they are striving to solve issues related to Accessibility, Affordability and Quality of Indian Healthcare space. This is one of our preliminary research in this domain and with the support of the ecosystem, we hope to delve deeper in this important, yet interesting space.
