The NASSCOM-KPMG Engineering R&D Global Location Analysis Study assesses 18 countries across the globe through various parameters to identify the current and future ER&D hotspots. In addition, a detailed global and India city-wise framework has also been developed to assess top ER&D locations with respect to various sectors as well.

Key Findings

Globally, the ER&D sector witnessed a growth of over 7% in 2021 vis-à-vis 2020.
Majority of the ER&D spend occurs in North American region, accounting for over 37% of world ER&D spend.
Software & Internet and Healthcare are highest spenders on ER&D.

Global enterprises are seeking innovation and value creation through their offshore ER&D centres.
Parameters used for selection of key ER&D locations include
- Talent availability including talent proximity and their competitiveness
- Cost attractiveness
- Existing ER&D ecosystem
- Overall business environment

This study covers leading 18 countries and 38 cities across APAC, North and Latin America, and Europe, assessed across different parameters and industries.

India has emerged as a location of choice for global ER&D companies. While assessing various locations across different parameters, India has scored highest across most parameters and emerged as a foremost choice, with a robust ER&D ecosystem, high STEM talent availability, a vibrant business environment, in addition to being cost effective.
In addition, many Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, NCR, Chennai etc., featured among the top cities across the world chosen by ER&D companies to set up their ER&D centres
