Stefano Gualeni

Trained as an architect, Stefano Gualeni is an Italian game-designer who is best known for being the author and designer of the Tony Tough games and for having written the point-and-click adventure Prezzemolo in Una Giornata da Incubo, licensed by the Italian theme-park Gardaland.

He graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, obtained his Master of Arts in 2008 at the Utrecht School of the Arts and he's concluding his Ph.D in Philosophy at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam with a thesis focused on digital media titled “Augmented Ontologies”.

Stefano is currently both researching and teaching at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands. When time allows, he works as columnist and Game Design consultant.

'Chewy!' was awarded the 'Best Design' award ($25,000) at the 2011 Independent Propeller Awards at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. ‘Chewy!’ also won the first prizes as best indie game of the year at the 2011 ‘Brave New Game’ competition in Naples, Italy and the ‘Diamond Award’ for best indie game of the year at the 2011 Dutch Festival of Games in Utrecht.
  • Stefano is thanked in the credits of ‘EXP’ (PC, Ubik Productions @ NHTV) for having helped with the structuring of the game concept and having supervised its development. ‘EXP’ received honorable mention in the 2011 Independent Games Festival Student Showcase.
  • Stefano is listed in the credits of the 2010 Independent Games Festival Student Showcase contestant ‘Haerfest’ (PC, developed by Technically Finished @ NHTV) for having helped with ludological research and supervision during the concept phase.
  • Stefano appears in the credits of ‘Fairytales Fights’ (2009, PS3 & XBOX-360, developed by Playlogic Entertainment Inc.) for having suported the team with quality assurance recruiting and training.
