Overview
Overview

India's talent availability, understanding of technology and execution abilities to deliver at scale are helping it attain supremacy in the world of AI.

Favourable circumstances have upsurged the growth of AI use cases across several industries. Recent studies show that sectors facing higher disruption due to COVID-19 have embraced AI more holistically, given survival concerns. Other AI enablers for India include-

  • Digital enterprises that continue to adopt AI-based solutions
  • An increasing number of AI startups and services companies that are building solutions for the world
  • Policy enablement by the government
  • Increased focus on data ecosystems
Need & Benefit

A report highlighted a $450-500Bn potential of AI adoption in India spread across nine key industry verticals by 2025. Despite becoming mainstream, its adoption is not uniform across sectors due to a lower level of sophistication in technology & data management, lack of appropriately skilled talent, and issues due to poor implementation. While many sectors have been forthcoming with their commitment to leveraging AI across multiple functions, others are still evaluating its potential.

We propose the development of an index that tracks the nine industry sectors and provides an overall estimate of each sector's extent of AI adoption. The necessary input metrics and corresponding weights will be carefully assembled in consultation with the industry. The insights from this effort will enable industry executives and policymakers to respond better with relevant interventions to take India's position higher.
