Interactive Workshop on Labour Reforms & Impact on Indian IT-BPM Organizations

NASSCOM in collaboration with Trilegal is pleased to invite you to an interactive workshop on ‘Labour Reforms & Impact on Indian IT-BPM Organizations’. We have seen various proposals being introduced by the Government in relation to labour laws in India in the recent past. The most important of these reforms has been the proposal to consolidate nearly 44 existing labour laws into 4 Labour Codes, namely the Wages Code, Industrial Relations Code, Code on Social Security and Welfare, and Code on Safety, Health and Working Conditions. To this effect, the Government has already published drafts of 3 of these codes for comments and has also tabled the Wages Code in the Lok Sabha which is likely to be taken up for discussion during the winter session of Parliament.

There have been some interesting and vital changes that have been proposed under these codes to the existing laws which could have a significant impact to the manner in which companies stay compliant from a labour perspective. In light of this, NASSCOM, in collaboration with Trilegal, is conducting this workshop to discuss the current proposals and the key changes under these codes vis-à-vis existing laws. During this session, speaker will discuss certain key provisions and obligations under existing employment laws that have grown in importance and have recently undergone reform such as the Maternity Benefit Act, Contract Labour law, and Apprentices Act. We will end the workshop with a Q&A session.

Some of the key issues which would be covered in this session are:
  • Overview of the changes proposed under the codes vis-à-vis the existing laws – this would include discussions on:
  • Proposal to revamp the existing social security system in line with the systems prevalent in developed countries to cover a larger demographic;
  • Discussion on the Industrial Relations Code and its applicability to the IT sector when changing employment policies, carrying out redundancies, etc.;
  • Discussions on the Wages Code and the proposal to have a national floor-level minimum wage;
  • What did the Government intend to achieve through the consolidation and to what extent has this objective been met;
  • Applicability of the Apprentices Act to companies in the IT sector and key obligations;
  • Applicability of the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act and restrictions imposed thereunder;
  • Recent changes to the Maternity Benefit Act.
