If you want to be successful in business, you need to welcome your competition with open arms - just don't let them walk all over you. Strike the right balance between respecting your rivals and focusing on how you can beat them, and you'll have a winning formula
- By Richard Branson.
In any market today there is competition, and it's very rare to find a true blue ocean market. Dealing with competition often involves a continuous repositioning exercise which can affect all parts of the business not just the marketing and sales function. The offering may have to be tweaked, pricing changed, distribution mechanisms modified, marketing message changed, sales strategies modified, and service delivery approach modified and so on. The extent of continuous change depends on the effectiveness of the strategy that enables you to counter/ overtake competition in the space you want to be in.
